I’m going to have to go with Hillary. I have several reasons but for me the most important reason is this; over 50% of America is made up of women, they have never had a representative of their sex as president. (anon 12)
Good point, but when you point out that blacks make up 12% of the population and say,
In what crazy idea of democracy would a representative of 12% of the population ever get to lead the rest of them? (anon 12)
I worry about the population being divided up in this way. It's like saying that a woman president is only going to represent women, or a black president is only going to represent blacks.
The fact is that we need to pick a leader who we feel will best represent all Americans.
And this would be a real accomplishment because the fact of the matter is that most often, we pick a representative who is completely out of touch with the life of the average Joe.
Does anyone remember that George Bush I had NEVER BEEN TO A GROCERY STORE IN HIS LIFE? (He had people for that.) How could such a person possibly represent the majority of Americans??
Most of the presidents we have had in recent years represent the 10% of our population who control 90% of our country's wealth.
Clinton was closer to representing the average citizen, and I think both Hillary and Obama have more in common with you and I than Bush I or Bush II.
I have to admit, I don't like the idea of our line of presidents being Bush I, Clinton I, Bush II, Clinton II... What are we, English?
I still think Hillary has a better chance in the general election. They've slung all the dirt they can sling at her, and she holds her ground quite well.
